Archaeo-zoology Studies Say Canidae Were Bred in Teotihuacan with Ritual Purposes
Specialists studied the canidae skeletons found in burials at the Moon Pyramid and the Quetzalcoatl Temple and revealed that they practised hybridization between dogs and wolves. Canidae is a cosmopolitan family of carnivorous mammals that includes the wolves, jackals, foxes, coyote, and the domestic dog. This research reveals that this culture had a deep knowledge of animal biology as they found uses for over 120 animal species each used for a different purpose. The recent studies also reveal that they bred Pumas in captivity for the purpose of ritual sacrifice.
