In 2006, researchers discovered a 4-meter (13-foot) long carving of Tlaltecuhtli, the Aztec earth goddess.Tlaltecuhtli was one of the most feared deities, who represented life and nurturing, as well as death. The unearthed carving depicted a stream of blood rushing out of her mouth indicates that Tlaltecuhtli had a appetite for blood. To honor the goddess, the aztecs' buried arrangement of offerings under the stone slab.
