Hidden Treasures Found in Indian Temple

In July 2011 officials announced that they had found hidden treasures in Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, in southwestern India. They uncovered bags of gold coins, diamonds, and even  golden idols one of which is Mahavishnu, all found in some of 6 secret vaults, which have not been opened in about a century.  The treasure was first to be thought only to worth 11 billion dollars. After more consideration all the treasure is estimated to be worth some where around 20 billion dollars. The reason behind the rising cost is because the temple sits on what used to be a trade route, where traders would offer enormous amounts to the deities and the rulers. The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple was served as a royal chapel for the rulers and was built some time in the 16th century. The chief minister was quoted saying  "The gold was offered to the lord. Its property of the temple. The government will protect the wealth of the temple". They now have police guarding the temples recently discovered treasures.
