Why slash apart a mummy? New research in Peru leaves archaeologists with ancient mystery

An archeology site in Peru reveals that all the mummies have been slashed open, though the cave entrance, where these mummies were located, was still sealed shut. This suggests that the mummies were slashed by the same people who diligently worked to bury them, especially since the ceramics, textiles, and precious metals found within the caves are still present. Archeologists believe this violent act against the dead was a response to social change within the ancient La Real community.
