Zurich Asia's Largest Rare Stamp Auction

Zurich-2.jpg

Zurich Asia is holding its largest ever auction of rare stamps from Imperial and Modern China mid-August of this year. The auction will be held at the Excelsior in Hong Kong, and will display over 3,000 issues of rare stamps. The market for stamps to collect in Asia is very strong, and seems to be growing.

One of the greatest items for sale is a complete sheet of 80 "Golden Monkey" stamps, framed and in mint condition, along with another sheet unframed and unmounted. The Golden Monkey represents the 1980 Year of the Monkey. The collector has held onto it for thirty years, and it will now go on sale for an estimated HK$1-1.1 million.

Another outstanding piece offered at this sale will be a complete sheet of 8 fen 1968 "The Whole Country is Red", which is an extremely difficult find for collectors. It has been preserved for a quarter of a century, and will go for HK$600,000-700,000.

Among other rarities to be displayed at this auction, one of the most notable sales is a 1949 Flying Geese Dah Tung stamp in mint condition, marked at HK$250,000-300,000. This is unique to the auction because only six known copies exist in the world.
