Tomb of The First Emperor of Qin Robbed

The tomb of the first emperor of Qin, known for its terracotta warriors whose purpose was to guard the emperor, was robbed October of 2010. The police, along with specialists from the Ministry of Public Security and State Administration of Cultural Heritage started an investigation after a 90 foot deep tunnel was found leading to the tomb of the father of Emperor Qin. Nine men are held in connection with the break-in, and confessed to using dynamite to make the tunnel, as well as other sophisticated equipment that prevented damaging the thieves’ health. During the robbery, coffins were seriously damaged and items were taken from the tomb. Experts suggest that thousands of robbers may be active in China, seeing as artifacts can be sold for top dollar on the black market. Because of the sensitivity of the story, information wasn’t released until November 2010.
